Description:
Medium sized golden yellow bird, with black mask and mainly black wings. Adult male has small black eye-patch, golden-yellow head and body, largely black wings with yellow carpal patch and prominent tips to tertials/secondaries. Adult female has yellowish-green upperparts and blackish streaking on whitish underparts.
Distribution:
Common summer visitor to all the valleys of Gilgit-Baltistan, only avoiding higher elevations. Occurs in deciduous and semi-evergreen forests, forest edge, open woodland, groves, cultivations and urban gardens with large trees. From 1000m to 3500m.
Behavior:
Forages alone, in pairs and sometimes in small groups; sometimes joins mixed-species flocks. Mostly in dense canopy of trees; may drop to ground to catch insects. Eats mainly berries and fruits of cherries, mulberries and figs; also buds, nectar. Also invertebrates, other bugs, ants, and especially caterpillars.
